The Kendra started in 2001 was formally inaugurated by Shri.S Ramakrishnan, the then Executive Secretary & Director General of Bhavan on April 21, 2002.
The Kendra has two main campuses.

• The Chelembra campus situated on a 5.64 acre plot of land and
• the Vazhayur campus on a 26.79 acre land.

Bhavan's Pre-primary School, a CBSE Senior Secondary School, a B.Ed College and a Law college are located at the Chelembra campus.
The Law College was established in 2012.
