India's Space Missions

On November 6, 2024, a special lecture on ‘India’s Space Missions’ was organised by Kochi Kendra at Sardar Patel Sabha Griha. ISRO Chairman Dr. S. Somanath captivated an eager audience with his talk on ‘Indian Space Odyssey and Vision’. This event drew a diverse crowd of teachers, students and members from all the seven schools, Balamandirs and other institutions under the aegis of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kochi Kendra. The talk was also attended by invited guests and dignitaries. Dr. Somanath highlighted ISRO’s recent accomplishments, including the Chandrayaan-3 lunar mission and the Aditya-L1 mission to study the Sun. He outlined ambitious plans for India’s space future, including the Gaganyaan mission, which aims to launch Indian astronauts into space.
Dr. Somanath also provided a perspective on India’s journey in space science, noting, “In space science, India was only a startup in 2014, but now India is capable of launching satellites of other countries also.” He further added that ISRO is now self-efficient to make its own rocket parts. This event provided students and teachers with a glimpse into India’s expanding role in the global space community and the nation’s commitment to advancing space exploration and technology.

Navaratri Celebrations

Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Eroor, celebrated ‘Shodasha Mantra Geetham’ as part of its Navratri festivities on October 9, 2024, at Sardar Patel Sabha Griha. The event saw active participation from around 150 students, who showcased their talents in music and dance, making it a vibrant and colourful celebration.
A soulful classical music performance by the students enthralled the audience, blending cultural heritage with devotion.
The highlight of the celebration was a mesmerising dance drama performed by the students, which beautifully depicted the life of Lord Krishna, from his divine birth to the captivating tale of Rukmini Swayamvaram. The performance was greatly appreciated for its artistic excellence and spiritual depth.

Kerala Piravi Celebrations

Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Eroor, commemorated Kerala Piravi on November 1, 2024, with an array of cultural events celebrating the state’s heritage. The event was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Shri Rajeev Aalunkal, a renowned poet and lyricist, who shared insightful thoughts on Kerala’s artistic contributions.
The Kerala Day (Kerala Piravi) featured captivating performances by the students, including a dance presentation and a group song, which showcased pride in Kerala’s traditions. Adding to the excitement, Kozhikode Sreenivasan and his team performed the temple art form ‘Theyyavum Thottam Pattum’, enthralling the audience with their dynamic expressions, rhythmic movements and vibrant costumes, giving the young ones a chance to experience the traditional art form of northern Kerala.

Annual Sports Meet

The 36th Annual Sports Meet was held on October 1, 2024, on the school premises.
The programme commenced with the March past led by the School Council and the Captains and Vice Captains of eight houses. Shri Arunjith S, International Athlete, the Chief Guest of the day, hoisted the school flag and declared the Meet open.
Senior Sports Captain, Master Advaith Ramavarma administered the oath to the office-bearers. The Chief Guest, in his inaugural address, highlighted the importance of sports and how it enables students to develop a positive attitude and the capacity to face victory and defeat in good spirit. To add splendour and grandeur, children laid out an array of programmes. Students from the secondary section participated in the aerobic display. This was followed by Yoga display by students of Std. 1 to 5.
The students took part in various sports events with great enthusiasm.

Theyyam Performance

A captivating Theyyam performance was hosted by Bhavan’s Munshi Vidyashram in connection with the Kerala Piravi Celebration on November 1, 2024. Kozhikode Sreenivasan, along with his troupe of skilled artists from Parambarya Theyyam Kalasamithi in Kozhikode, presented a mesmerising Theyyam performance which showcased the profound cultural richness and deep-rooted traditions of Kerala. The event was a celebration of the region’s vibrant folk heritage, drawing in students, parents, and faculty members who were eager to witness this unique art form. The event featured the performances of Bhagavathi and Bhairavan, two significant and revered forms in Theyyam.

Gandhi Jayanti

Students and teachers of Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Eroor, actively participated in several events organised in connection with Gandhi Jayanti. They enthusiastically took part in a Kids’ Run, a march, and a cleanliness drive. Bhavan’s Kids’ Run was organised by the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) to raise awareness on the importance of cleanliness and environmental protection, thereby reaching out to the community. Under the inspiring slogan, ‘Let’s run together for a cleaner tomorrow’, students from LKG to Grade 12 joined in.
Additionally, Guides, NCC members, students, and teachers actively participated in the walkathon organised by the Pedestrian Facilitation Council (TPFC). The objective of the event was to raise awareness about pedestrian safety and the importance of safe walkways. Following this, students and teachers joined in a cleanliness drive covering the pathway from Palace High School to the Vadakkekotta Metro Station.
As part of the Gandhi Jayanti celebrations, the school also undertook a clean-up drive within the campus involving teachers and students.

Casa de Gestao 2024

‘Casa de Gestao 2024’ National-Level Management Fest organised by Bhavan’s Royal Institute of Management, Tripunithura, under the auspices of Kochi Kendra, was held on November 19, 2024, at the Bhavan’s campus. The event provided an excellent platform for UG and PG students across the state and outside to showcase their skills by participating in various management and non-management events. The occasion was graced by Ms. Lavina Renson, Senior Manager at Punjab National Bank, who was present along with the film crew of Anand Sreebala.

New Open Gym Facility Unveiled

Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Elamakkara, inaugurated its new Open Gym facility on August 17, 2024 on the school premises. This new addition, designed to boost the physical well-being of both students and faculty, was made possible by the SEED Club, which utilised their prize money from the Kerala State Mathrubhumi SEED Vishishta Sreshta Haritha Vidyalayam Award 2022-2023, a prestigious accolade conferred by Mathrubhumi and Federal Bank to install the gym equipments.
Shri Tinu Yohannan, former Indian cricket player and esteemed alumnus of Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Elamakkara, delivered the inaugural address and officially opened the gym.
The Open Gym is the first of several planned projects aimed at promoting a healthier lifestyle within the school community. According to the feedback received from all the stakeholders, the installation was swift and the equipment had been well-received, enhancing students’ physical fitness and confidence through improved flexibility, strength, and balance.

Culmination of Ramayana Week Celebrations

The week-long Ramayana Week celebrations concluded on July 22, 2024 with a series of vibrant and meaningful events. The festivities were highlighted by a Ramayana Parayanam performed by students from Ahimsa and Shanti houses. This was followed by a soulful Bhajan recital by parents, adding a spiritual touch to the occasion. The celebrations reached their peak with an enthralling dance drama depicting the victory of Rama over Ravana, captivating the audience and conveying the timeless message of good triumphing over evil.

Special lecture

The Kochi Kendra hosted a special thought-provoking lecture by Dr. Dinesh Nair, Senior Health Specialist South Asia Region World Bank, on July 20, 2024. The event attracted a diverse audience eager to gain insights into Kerala’s healthcare landscape. Principals, Vice Principals, Assistant Vice Principals, representatives from the management and teachers from seven schools attended the event.
Titled “Changing Paradigm for Healthcare in Kerala—The Opportunities and Challenges”, the lecture offered valuable insights into the state’s evolving healthcare scenario. Dr. Nair highlighted Kerala’s impressive health metrics, such as high life expectancy and low infant mortality rates, attributing these achievements to the state’s robust public health infrastructure and high levels of health literacy. After the lecture, an engaging session ensued where Dr. Rajeev Jayadevan, Dr. A. Sashikumar, and Dr. Vinod Krishnan eloquently addressed questions on the topic of the event.

Prajna – Arts Day

A vibrant display of talent filled the college on March 6, 2024 for Arts day. From captivating musical performances to mesmerising dance routines, the event provided a platform for students to express themselves and share their passion with the community and foster a sense of appreciation for the arts. Renowned actress Ms. Sruthi Vipin joined the celebration which further ignited the college’s artistic spirit.

IRA 2024 – Annual Sports Day

IRA 2024, the annual sports day was conducted in the campus on March 26, 2024. The proceedings of this auspicious day commenced with the lamp lighting ceremony by Dean Dr. Rajagopala Nair followed by a walkathon to Bhavan’s ground.
The day served as a much-needed break from the academic grind. It was a testament to the college’s commitment to holistic education, where physical fitness and a healthy competitive spirit are nurtured alongside academic excellence.

Achievements

◆ Ms. Shradha Khanna, 1st year MBA, secured 1st prize in Hindustani, 2nd prize in Light Music, 2nd prize in Ghazal and 3rd prize in Classical Music in the CUSAT Arts Festival 2024.
◆ Mr. Roshan K, 1st year MBA, secured 1st prize in Hindustani and 2nd prize in Ghazal in the CUSAT Arts Festival 2024. He also won a silver medal in the junior category at the Kerala State Natural Bodybuilding Competition.
◆Mr. Arjun Padmanabha Kailas, Ms. Soya Paul, Mr. Jerson Jose and Mr. Athul Raj got the second prize in Best Management Team Competition held during the National Level Management Fest, Zeitgeist 2K24 Ojingo.
◆Ms. Gayathri, 1st year MBA, secured 1st prize in Film Review in the CUSAT Arts Festival 2024.
◆Mr. Karthik K S, Ms. Meenakshi K and Ms. Aarathi Ashok Menon stood second in Simulation at the management fest conducted at Jai Bharath Arts and Science College, Perumbavoor.
◆Ms. Gayatri Rajesh, Ms. Induja M K, Ms. Devamaya M S and Ms. Hajara P Y won First prize in the HR Game held during the National Level Management Fest, Zeitgeist 2K24 Ojingo.

Anarghasangamam

To honour and felicitate the students for their meritorious performance in the SSCE and SSE 2023-2024, Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Eroor, organised ‘Anarghasangamam – 2024’, the Annual Merit function on June 26, 2024. Prof Ambat Vijayakumar, Emeritus Professor CUSAT & Vice Chairman, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kochi Kendra, was the Chief Guest of the day. Trophies and certificates were distributed to the school toppers, subject toppers and students who scored A1 in all subjects. Kumari Savinya R, Science Stream topper, scored 491/500 and stood 4th in the All India Bhavan’s ranking. Kumari Sherin Thomas, Commerce Stream topper, scored 491/500 and stood 7th in the All India Bhavan’s ranking.

Investiture Ceremony

The Investiture Ceremony of Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Eroor, was held on June 20, 2024, to inaugurate the newly elected Student Council for the academic year 2024-25. The ceremony, which took place in the school premises, was a solemn occasion where the student leaders pledged to translate their vision into reality, upholding the values and ideals of the institution. The Senior Head Boy and Senior Head Girl, along with the student council members and house captains, took the oath of office, promising to discharge their duties with sincerity, dedication and integrity. The ceremony commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp, followed by a procession of student leaders, accompanied by the rhythmic beat of drums, to receive their badges. Through this ceremony, the school reaffirmed its confidence in the newly elected leaders, entrusting them with the responsibility of carrying forward the legacy of excellence and leadership.

Reading Week

The jubilant festivities of Reading Week were initiated on June 19, 2024, at Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Eroor, igniting a spirit of literary excitement and scholarly zeal amongst students and faculty alike. The Chief Guest, Smt. Chithira Kusumam, renowned writer and environmental activist, delivered a stirring speech on the transformative power of reading. Her profound insights had a lasting impact, reminding everyone of the magic that lies within the pages of a book. Smt. Prasanna Kumari, Rtd. Headmistress of Government High School, Tripunithura, addressed the students in the primary section. She emphasised the importance of cultivating a love for reading among students. Reading Day Pledge was administered to all students.

XII National Integration Camp 2024

The XII National Integration Camp, a grand six-day event themed ‘Diverse Voices, One Nation: the Melody of Integration’, was held under the aegis of Bhavan’s Shikshan Bharati at Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir Eroor, from May 6–11, 2024. The camp had around 425 participants, including teachers and students from Classes 9–12, representing various Bhavan’s schools from across India.
The function was graced by Dr. Dinesh K Daftary, Trustee and Executive Committee Member of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mumbai.
The camp explored diverse topics to discover the essence of inclusivity and understanding. The subjects ranged from honing the art of public speaking and instilling core values of empathy and compassion, to the ancient discipline of Kalari and the dynamic simulations of Model United Nations. Other topics included the exhilaration of practising sports, the vibrant colours of the murals painted on community walls, unleashing creativity through art and craft and nurturing the spirit of entrepreneurship. Each session was a captivating blend of enchantment and intellectual stimulation, ensuring an enriching and thought-provoking experience for all participants.The cultural programmes presented by various schools during the National Integration Camp were a vivid melange of diversity, talent, and unity. Each performance was a testament to the rich cultural mosaic of our nation, celebrating the unique heritage of every participant. As the camp drew to a close on May 11, 2024, the grand finale was marked by an exhibition that showcased the participants’ vibrant displays, intricate posters, and captivating artefacts. These exhibits vividly depicted the diverse cultures and cherished traditions of their respective states, bringing them to life.
The NIC 2024 was not merely an event but a confluence of minds and hearts, in the pursuit of a brighter, more harmonious future.

Mangaladhwani

The annual customary meeting of teachers of Bhavan’s schools managed by the Kochi Kendra, was held on May 31, 2024 at the Sardar Patel Sabha Griha. The event, titled ‘Mangaladhwani’, signified a propitious commencement to the new academic year, interweaving elements of recognition, inspiration, and motivation into a harmonious celebration. The felicitation of the SSE toppers was a moment imbued with pride and joy. Devi Dyuthi Pisharady of Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Elamakkara and Niranjana Manayil of Bhavan’s Munshi Vidyashram, Thiruvamkulam, were recognised for their exemplary academic success. The students were bestowed with citations and certificates, a testament to their diligence and dedication.
Mangaladhwani was not merely a celebration of past achievements but a beacon of inspiration, guiding the Bhavan’s community towards a future replete with promise and excellence.

Farewell

The Kochi Kendra arranged a befitting farewell on March 25, 2024, to Dr. Rajagopala Nair, Dean, Bhavan’s Royal Institute of Management, Thiruvamkulam who demitted his office on March 31, 2024 . Dr. Rajagopala Nair served Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan for the past seven years. He is very loyal, committed, dedicated and led the institute to higher planes during his tenure as a Dean in Bhavan’s Royal Institute of Management. He maintains a positive and optimistic outlook, even in challenging times. Sri C A Venugopal C Govind, Chairman, handed over the memento to Dr. Rajagopala Nair in appreciation of his illustrious service to Bhavan.
The function was attended by the members of the Kendra Committee, Members of the Educational Wing, Principals, Vice Principals, Assistant Vice Principals of seven senior secondary schools, Teachers in charge of seven Bala Mandirs, Heads of other units, and Staff members of the Kendra Office.

Amrithavarshini 2024

Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Girinagar, organised the debut edition of ‘Amrithavarshini—Inter School Art & Cutural Fest’ for teachers of Bhavan’s schools, Kochi Kendra, on March 21, 2024. Comprising 6 competitive events ranging from group dance, group music, stand-up comedy, Anthakshari, Mehendi designing and painting, the Fest was a platform for the teacher-participants to showcase their inherent talents as well as enjoy the bonhomie and camaraderie that such fests generate. Bhavan’s Adarsha Vidyalaya, Kakkanad, emerged as a winner of the Fest with 25 points, and Bhavan’s Newsprint Vidyalaya, Velloor, scored 23 points. Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Eroor, and Bhavan’s Varuna Vidyalaya, Thrikkakara, with 22 points, won the 1st and 2nd runner-up positions, respectively. The trophies and certificates were distributed by Smt. Usha K, Education Officer (Bhavan’s Shikshan Bharati). 

SAPARYA 2024


The Kendra set the stage ablaze with the grand inauguration of ‘SAPARYA 2024 – A Journey through Indian Art and Culture’. The prestigious event unfolded at Vivekananda Auditorium, Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Eroor, on March 23, 2024. The programme commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the Chief Guest Prof. P R Kumara Kerala Varma, Retd. Principal, Sree Swathi Thirunal Govt College of Music, Thiruvananthapuram. He delivered an insightful address, sharing his wisdom and experiences from his illustrious career. His words were like a guiding beacon, urging the participants to unlock their potential by embracing their core strengths.

Honouring Student Achievers

The Kochi Kendra honoured around 400 student achievers who won laurels in sports, fine arts, quiz, literary competitions and science exhibitions at the International, National, Zonal and State level.
During the function organised at the Sardar Patel Sabha Griha, Chairman C A Venugopal C Govind emphasised that it is the dedication and diligence of the students in their chosen area of interest, combined with the earnest efforts of their trainers, which enable them to achieve optimal results.
Director Sri E Ramankutty and Education Officer Smt Vijayalakshmi offered felicitations and congratulated the students. Certificates of Commendation were distributed to all achievers.
Bhavan’s staff members who completed a quarter century and a decade of service with the organisation were also presented with the ceremonial silver and bronze lamps, respectively.

37th All Kerala Inter School Science Quiz Competition

The 37th All Kerala Inter-School Science Quiz, hosted by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kochi Kendra, was held on February 28, 2024, in connection with National Science Day at Sardar Patel Sabha Griha, Kochi, under the theme ‘Indigenous Technologies for Vikasit Bharat’, paying homage to Sir C.V. Raman’s ground-breaking discovery of the Raman Effect. The formal function commenced with a prayer, followed by a captivating video presentation titled ‘A Saga of Science’, showcasing the remarkable contributions of scientists throughout history.
Dr. Akshay Subramanian, a renowned figure in the quizzing circuit, served as the esteemed quiz master, guiding participants through intellectually stimulating rounds, and 22 schools from across the state participated in the event in both the Junior and Senior categories. 
Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir Elamakkara clinched the coveted first prize at the Senior level. Bhavan’s Adarsha Vidyalaya emerged a winner at the Junior level.
Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir Girinagar secured the second place in both the categories. Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir Elamakkara and Bhavan’s Adarsha Vidyalaya, Kakkanad, secured the third prizes in the Junior and Senior Category, respectively. Shri E Ramankutty, Director of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kochi Kendra, distributed the certificates, cash prizes and trophies to the winners.
