Infosys Foundation, Bengaluru, and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Amritsar, celebrated ‘Hemanta’, a week-long cultural Utsav (November 15-21, 2024) at Bhavan’s SL Public School, Amritsar.
On the first day of this series, on November 15, 2024, the 555th Prakash Parv of Pratham Patshahi Shri Guru Nanak Devji was organised with great enthusiasm and zeal. On the sacred occasion, the music team of the school made the entire atmosphere devotional by singing ‘Shabd’. The chief guest of the programme, Mr. Kunwar Vijay Pratapji, while heartily welcoming everyone, said that Guru Nanak Devji gave the message of ‘Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah’ by ending the evils in the society.
On the first day, Sufi music and dance was organised in the evening session. Famous singer Mr. Robin Wadali and his team gave a performance that was full of devotional fervour.
On the second day of this festive series, November 16, 2024, folk songs of the great singers of Punjab were presented on the stage by the melodious singers of Amritsar including Harinder (of Indian Idol Season 9 fame), Sahil Arora (a versatile singer), Saloni Arora Bhatia (another versatile singer), Rajesh Raju (an acclaimed T-series artist) and Nikita Puri (winner of Voice of Punjab Season 14). Padma Shri winner Puran Chand Wadaliji graced the event and his presence made the atmosphere joyous.
On the evening of November 17, 2024, Padma Shri recipient Romalo Ram and his daughter Sars Bharti gave a captivating performance celebrating Dogri folk traditions. Dr. Rajiv Devgan (Director Principal, Government Medical College, Amritsar) graced the auspicious event along with his wife as the chief guest. Dr. SPS Grover PDG RI Distt. 3070 (2007-08), Dr. H S Nagpal (Hartej Hospital, Amritsar) and Dr. Atul Khanna (Professor, Head of Physics department) were also present as chief guests. The programme focused on ‘Cultural Heritage’, ‘Artistic Expression’ and ‘Social Awareness’.
On November 18, 2024, a grand staging of ‘Vehra Shagna Da’ Punjabi wedding music and dance was organised by the teachers and students of Bhavan’s School. Be it the engagement ceremony, Mehendi ceremony, Shagun ceremony or Jaymala or farewell ceremony, all the rituals were brought alive by presenting them beautifully on the stage in a short time.
On the evening of November 19, 2024, a captivating presentation of folk dances of India was presented by the North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala. In this, about 84 participants presented a beautiful scene of cultural unity of India by presenting folk dances from different parts of North India.
On November 20, 2024, a captivating presentation of Punjabi folk songs was performed by Glory Bawa (North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala) at Bhavan’s Kala Kendra, Amritsar.
A Handicraft exhibition ‘Rangala Punjab’ was organised on the morning of November 21, 2024, the seventh day of this series. On this occasion, Mr. Harbhagwant Singh (DEO, Secondary Education, Amritsar), wife Mr. Suresh Manandi (Secretary, BVB Bengaluru) were present as chief guests. The students of Bhavan’s Muskaan Vidyalaya (suffering from physical and mental disabilities) enhanced their talent by making bangle stands, kites, bundles, rangoli, etc. with their own hands.
An unforgettable dance performance showcasing the blend of traditional and contemporary choreography was presented by Akash Dogra and his team of Natya Roots Dance Group at the Hemanta programme on the evening of November 21, 2024, at Bhavan’s Art Centre, Amritsar.

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Bhavan’s SL Public School, Amritsar organised a Prize Distribution Ceremony for Bhavan’s P D Kumar Memorial Gyandeep School Shivala Bhaiyan, Bhavan’s RL Mittal Memorial School, Islamabad, Amritsar, Bhavan’s Gandhi Institute of Computers, Bhavan’s Muskan School and Bhavan’s Saksham. Ms. Sakshi Sawhney (IAS Deputy Commissioner) was the Chief Guest. Mr. Brijesh Kumar Yadav and Mr. Anil Dawra (Circle Headmaster and Deputy Circle Head, PNB Amritsar) also graced the event.
The Chairman, Shri Avinash Mohindru said that these schools provide free education to deprived students along with books, food and transportation. Bhavan’s Muskan and Bhavan’s Saksham provide education to autistic and disabled students with special attention and care. The students presented a colourful programme including welcome song, bhajan, dance performance and play devoted to Mahatma Gandhi. Winners of Gandhi Quiz and of the different competitions held by the Sahodaya Schools complex, were awarded for their different achievements. The Chief Guest Mrs. Sakshi Sawhney underlined the importance of the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri and praised their sacrifices and efforts for the nation. CSR under Punjab National Bank, gave a contribution of Rs. 1 lakh and 11 thousand for Shri PD Kumar Memorial Gyandeep School. The monthly magazine Bhavan’s Darshan was released by the management committee.

Bhavan’s SL Public School, Amritsar, celebrated Janmashtami with great devotion and reverence on its premises. Sh. Ashok Talwar (Chairperson, Improvement Trust, Amritsar), Smt. Manmohan Suri (Chairman, Innerwheel Distt. 307) and Dr. A.K. Sharma graced the occasion as the chief guests and guest of honour, respectively.
Mrs. Nisha Chhabra and Mrs. Rashmi Nanda were the special guests. On this auspicious occasion the students of Saksham (Aashray) and Muskaan School (School for Special Children) presented beautiful dance performances dedicated to Lord Krishna.
The life history of Lord Krishna was depicted by 20 well-presented tableaus. The narrators enthusiastically explained the meaning of their respective jhankis to the chief guests. The chief guests motivated the students to celebrate each festival in the right spirit and appreciated them for their unwavering efforts. The students were awarded for their excellent performance in academics.

Cancer Care was organised in Bhavan’s SL Public School on August 10, 2024 for the school staff.
Dr. Amandeep Kaur, Dr. Jagdeep Singh (HOD and Chief Orthopaedic Surgeon, Robotic Joint Replacement Specialist, MBBS, D(orthopaedic), MS, M.Ch(ortho), Dr. Ravi Mahajan (MBBS, MS, MCh Plastic Surgery and Chief Plastic Microvascular and Reconstructive Surgeon), Dr. Shashank Mahajan [MBBS, MS Surgery (GMC, ASR), MCh Surgical Oncology (Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai), Ex. Asst. Professor, TMH, Mumbai], Dr. Bhagwant Mathur and their health care team were some of the experts present during the occasion. The session was very informative.
78th Independence Day Celebration
Bhavan’s SL Public School, Amritsar, celebrated the 78th Independence Day with patriotic fervour and zeal on August 15, 2024. Dr. Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh IPS (Retd.), present MLA, was the chief guest on the special occasion. Rtn Dr. PS Grover (District Governor RI Dist. 3070) and Rtn Sh. Anil Singhal (DGN RI 3070) glorified the event with their esteemed presence as the guests of honour. Tricolour balloons were released in the air and the National Anthem echoed throughout the entire campus. This was followed by the march-past of the School’s NCC Cadets, Scouts and Guides, along with the band team. The students presented a number of captivating performances on the stage. A play on ‘Azad Bharat’ was performed by the students. Students of Bhavan’s Muskaan—A School for Special Children presented a mesmerising dance performance. The programme concluded with a splendid folk dance performance.

Bhavan’s SL Public School students of Std. 10 scored 100 per cent in the board examination. A total of 247 students of Std. 10 appeared in this examination, in which Ayushi Kumari scored 98.2 per cent marks, Hardik bagged 98 per cent, Suhana achieved 97.4 per cent and Pavani Ahuja got 97 per cent marks, and left their indelible impressions on the achievement list of the school. Apart from this, 11 students scored more than 100 per cent marks in Mathematics, Artificial Intelligence and Hindi. Five students got 99 per cent in Punjabi, Science and Social Studies.
Std. 12 Board Exams
Suhaan Malhotra of Bhavan’s SL Public School brought laurels to the school by scoring 98.2% marks in CBSE board exams in Liberal Arts. Yashti and Vedansh achieved 97.4% in the Non-medical stream and Humanities. Paras Dhand and Sargun secured 97% marks in Commerce stream. 2 students got 100% in Chemistry, 20 scored 100% in Painting, 11 in Music and 4 students in Dance, respectively. Students achieved 99% in English, Accountancy, Mathematics and Physical Education. As many as 50 students got more than 90%.

Bhavan’s SL Public School and Rotary Club Amritsar Midtown organised the 16th mass marriage on April 21, 2024 on its school premises. This joint venture was made possible under the able guidance of Chairman Sh. Avinash Mohindru, Director Principal Dr (Mrs.) Anita Bhalla and Secretary Prof SN Joshi and management committee of Bhavans with the generous cooperation of Rotary Club Amritsar Midtown, teachers, parents and social workers of the city. Twenty-six couples tied the knot. Dr Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, IPS (retd) MLA, Rtn Adv Vipan Bhasin, Distt Governor RI Distt 3070, Rtn Rohit Oberoi, nominee Distt Governor (2024-25) RI Dist 3070, Rtn Sh Anil Singhal, District Governor Nominee Designate (2026-27) RI Dist 3070, and Ms Rita Sharma Distt IW Distt 307 graced the occasion as Special Guests.
Gift items worth Rs. 40000 were given by the school and Rotary Club to each couple to start their new life. After that students presented cultural items to enliven the ceremony.

Bhavan's Amritsar Kendra in partnership with Chinmaya Mission Amritsar organised C 20 National Conference on 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' at Amritsar on April 17, 2023.
Bhavan's S L Public School Amritsar actively joined this programme of national importance as a major partner. The school staff participated enthusiastically and took on a varied number of duties to make the event a grand success.
Hon'ble Shri Banwarilal Purohit, His Excellency the Governor of Punjab and National Vice-President of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Mumbai, inaugurated the conference. The conference had three plenary sessions on Dharma, Education and Defence. For the session on Dharma, Swami Mitrananda, Singh Sahib Prof Manjit Singh, former Jathedar Sri Akal Takhat Sahib Amritsar and Maulana Usman Ludhianvi Shahi Imam Pb were the main speakers. Acharya Pradyumnji Maharaj, Mukhya Updeshak, Patanjali Yoga Peeth Haridwar and Swami Chidrupananda, Head, Chinmaya Mission Noida, spoke on Education. Lt. Gen (Retd) S N Handa PVSM AVSM, Lt. Gen (Retd) Mohinder Puri PVSM UYSM and Lt. Gen K J Singh PVSM AVSM, were the resource persons for the session on Defence.
The entire focus was on how Dharma, Education and Defence can promote the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. Lively interaction with the audience followed to make the deliberations more interesting and fruitful.

Bhavan's students took out a rally to create awareness of G20, as per the instructions of CBSE, under Sahodaya School Complex, on April 15, 2023, in the surrounding areas of Shivala Bagh Bhaiyan. Students, along with teachers, enlightened the citizens of Amritsar by shouting slogans to encourage 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam', the cornerstone of Indian culture through the G-20 rally. The rally was led by Bhavan's Director-Principal Dr. Anita Bhalla. As many as 400 students of class IX, Scouts and Guides, NCC cadets and Red Cross volunteers actively participated in the rally.

Bhavan's Kala Kendra, Amritsar, organised a soulful 81st Kala Kendra event, 'Rang Sufiyana -“ A Bonanza of Sufi Songs', on February 12, 2023. Mr. Gurlal, Mr. Parampreet, Mr. Avinash, Mr. Sonu and Ms. Indu Bala were the artists, who with their melodious voices, entertained the audience.
The Sufi songs created the ambience in which the human soul can experience divine love. The qawwali, which is the best-known form of Sufi music, left the audience speechless.

Bhavan SL Public School, Amritsar celebrated the 74th Republic Day and Basant Panchami with patriotic fervour on January 26, 2023 on its premises.
The national flag was unfurled and tri-coloured balloons were released in the air in the presence of dignitaries. The school band, NCC Cadets and Scouts and Guides presented the parade which was followed by a PT show by the students of Class 4. A group song on patriotism by the students of Gyandeep School lent a beautiful feeling of wholesomeness and loveliness to the event. The students presented a beautiful play emphasising on the importance of fundamental rights in the Constitution. Bhavanites showcased martial arts and folk dances which left the audience spellbound. Students of Muskaan School presented a role-play based on the theme of saving the environment. The monthly magazine 'Bhavans Darshan' was released by the Chief Guest.
