About the book:

Meera Sashital has collected all information about several saints, not only from India but also from other places. Thus Jesus Christ, Zoroastra, Rahim rub shoulders with Chokhamela, Kabir Madhavacharya, Tulsidas and others. There are 77 personalities from different parts of the world who lived at different times. According to M V Kamath who wrote the foreword to the book, a saint is one who is good, who is totally devoted to God and unremittingly caring towards fellow human beings. They need not always perform miracles or be philosophers. The author says that a saint is one who has had God realisation, one who is pure in heart, devoid of lust, greed, egoism and anger. He is tolerant, righteous, has universal love for all, has attained spiritual wisdom and knowledge. The book includes thirteen women saints like Mirabai, Muktabai, Vasuki, Sakhubai, Bahinabai and others.
The author has presented the saints in a very simple manner after a lot of painstaking research. All the saints mentioned are real ones who have enriched the lives of several people. Saint Gora was a potter, Raidas was a cobbler, Kabir a weaver, Narahari a goldsmith, Chokamela an untouchable, Kanhopatra a dancing girl, Janabai a maid and so on. Saints have been born in different castes but have transcended the manmade barriers in their search for God. These are stories about the birth, life and death of 77 saints, the legends, the preaching, the sayings and the trials undergone by them. Saints have not had an easy life, they have been ridiculed, they have been hurt, have been troubled yet they have gone to great lengths to convert these non believers into believers and made them their disciples. Jaidev's Geet Govind, Tiruvalavur's Thirukkural, Mirabai's bhajans have made these and other saints unforgettable and the book tells their stories in an interesting manner.
