The Bharatiya Sangeet Shikshapeeth was established in 1946 to propagate Indian classical music and dance. Ever since its inception, the Shikshapeeth has endeavoured to fulfil this object. Today, it is known to be one of the best institutions in the field of Hindustan Raag Sangeet. Committed to maintaining high standards of teaching, it has produced some of the best graduates in music and talented performing artistes and teachers, who have occupied high positions in the world of music in India and abroad.
The Sangeet Shikshapeeth trains students in Hindustani music, vocal and instrumental, for a five-year degree course of "Sangeet Visharad" (Bachelor of Music) which is conferred by the Bhatkhande Sangeet Vidyapeeth, Lucknow, to which it is affiliated.
Besides the classical music courses, hobby classes are also held to teach harmonium, electric guitar and Sugam Sangeet. Since 1988, the Shikshapeeth has been conducting vocal music class for children in the age-group of 6 to 10 years.
The Shikshapeeth is recognised by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, Government of India, and the State Governments of Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.
Sangeet Vrind
As an extra-curricular activity, the Shikshapeeth has a wing called "Sangeet Vrind" which holds demonstrations by students, staff members and occasional guest artistes. Lecture-demonstrations are also held under the aegis of "Sangeet Vrind" and also in collaboration with other organisations.

Bharatiya Nartan Shikshapeeth
Bharatiya Nartan Shikshapeeth is the Academy of Dance which was started in 1948. Students of this section are trained for a five-year diploma course, both in Bharat Natyam and Kathak.
