Bhavan's Institute of Tribal Welfare and Development of Tribal Culture

The Bhavan's Institute of Tribal Welfare and Development of Tribal Culture was established in 1999. The Institute, in collaboration with Department of Tribal Welfare, Government of Tripura started cultivating medicinal plants and herbs at Narsingarh, West Tripura.

The Institute has both proximate and ultimate objectives.
Proximate objectives include :
(a) Identification of medicinal plants and cultivation by the tribals;
(b) Conducting research works on plants with view to find out the multifarious qualities of plants and to use them in the preparation of medicines;
(c) Attracting people to make them aware of the effectiveness of medicines, and
(d) Encouraging tribals to cultivate them on commercial basis to ameliorate their economic conditions, etc.

Ultimate objectives include :
(a) Protecting to medicinal plants
(b) Discovering unknown medicinal plants to us but known to the tribals;
(c) Popularising Ayurvedic medicine to the common people, and
(d) Preparing patent for the rare medicinal plants of Tripura.

The Institute introduced Bhavan's Herbal Medicinal Garden in 2000. It acts as a Research Centre and Demonstration Garden for the tribal clients.
