The Department of Ancient Insights and Modern Discoveries was established in 1977 with the chief objective of drawing upon the spirit of and living up to the permanent values of Bharatiya Vidya. These values are treasured in the Vedas, the Upanishads and the Puranas as well as numerous books of great antiquity. The striking parallels noticed between ancient wisdom and modern discoveries during the course of its research and study strengthened the belief that a systematic pursuit of correlative research would result in greater benefit to society.
The Ancient Insights and Modern Discoveries Project is now working in three wings or divisions as under:
(i) Science and Technology;
(ii) Life and Health Sciences, and
(iii) Centre for the Synthesis of Science and Human Values.
The various research activities conducted by the three divisions of the A.I.M.D. during the year under report are briefly given below:
The Science and Technology Division
The wing is located in Mumbai. The work of this wing relates to correlative studies concerning Astronomy, Atomic Theory and Environmental Science.
