What Ramayana means to me

Dharma All the Way

The great poet Valmiki has done the wonderful exercise of restricting the phenomenal power of Easwara within the limits of dharmic life of a human being. Myth, history, poetry and devotion were harmoniously and beautifully blended in Rama’s story which spread among the vast masses of the country.
Rama was not only an embodiment of shining virtues like total adherence to truth, celibacy, compassion, sweet talk, wisdom and statesmanship but also a dynamic and courageous person.
In Ramayana, Valmiki describes from the depth of truth, purity, transparent with the subtility of poetic rhythm and meter the story of a man, who walked step by step in life, calm and serene, determined and devoted, meeting challenges with courage, doing his duty without deviating from the abstract concept of dharma but with discretion and wisdom, who finally rises to the high pedestal of God, worshipped by millions for so many centuries, unparalleled in world history.
Sri Rama is the most human of all God’s incarnations. Today in India if we value the ideal of inviolability of marriage it is because of Ramayana. Today if there is filial piety in our land it is largely due to Ramayana. Regarding principles of life, Ramayana’s relevance in the new millennium surpasses even the lines drawn by religions. A nation is great not because of its wealth, mountains or rivers. A nation is great because of its great people.
“ Life is not what you think it is, Life is what you make of it”.
Turn your attention to Ramayana, you will get the right direction.
