Those of us who had participated in the Freedom Movement dreamt of a Free India where everybody will be spiritually and materially free, irrespective of any consideration. But we were first shocked when India was partitioned by the British, and then when Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, was assassinated by a communalist.
We got a further shock when the Panchayati Raj did not find any place in the Constitution of India. The Constitution was a revised and enlarged copy of the Govt. of India Act, 1935.
Now, after five decades of the Republic (26th Jan. 1950), I have a feeling that instead of working hard for making our Vision of Free India come true we opted for a soft path of following the West.
It means that the inspiration and vision of the Freedom Movement and Mahatma Gandhi have been forgotten.
We are merely paying lip service and not working for ‘Loka-Sangraha’ with “anasakata-bhava”.
We have strayed far far away from our vision, from our own path.
