One wonders if this freedom has brought what many of the Indians of that generation looked forward to!
It was hoped that ours would be a country where there will be no exploitation of men by men, no mental slavery, no crushing poverty and no social injustice. That free India will march on the principles of Socialism and Secularism and that every Indian child will have good health and sound education. That free India will provide to the world a model of correct human civilization and that free India will be a country where politicians will be real servants and no masters of people and avoid pomp and pageantry. Free India, it was hoped, will bring up people with plain living and high thinking and who will be persons of high intellectual honesty.
