Golden Jubilee Celebrations

Bhavan’s Chennai Kendra as a part of its Golden Jubilee celebrations started a Literary Forum. The Literary Forum was inaugurated by Dr. H. V. Hande, former Health Minister, of Tamilnadu on April 26, at Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidyashram at Kilpauk.
The Kendra Chairman, Shri V. R. Lakshminarayanan, presided over the function. Shri E.P.G. Nambiar, Chairman, Bhavan’s Literary Forum, welcomed the gathering.
Dr. Hande, after the formal inauguration by lighting the lamp, presented some important portions of his prose rendering of Kamba Ramayanam (A Bhavan’s Book University Publication) from Tamil to English.
There was lively participations from the audience and they compared Kamban’s unique portrayal of women to the works of great English poets like Shakespeare and Thomas Hardy.


The Literary Forum was inaugurated by Dr. H. V. Hande, former Health Minister, of Tamilnadu on 26 April, in chennai at Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidyashram at Kilpauk in Chennai.

 

 

Five Books Released

The Bhavan’s Chennai Kendra released five Bhavan’s Book University Publications on April 25. "Vaalmeeki Raamaayana-An Anthology-A Panorama" authored by Shri L. Swaminathan and "The Path to Salvation" authored by Shri Naresh Gupta, (Chief Electoral officer of Tamilnadu) were released by Shri K. Parasaran (Former Attorney General, Government of India).
"Shri A. Rangaswamy Iyengar – Forgotten Freedom Fighter Remembered" authored by Shri M. S. Parthasarathy, was released by Shri M. S. Rangaswami, (Retired Chief Post Master General, Tamilnadu). While "Viddikkum Appal Vimarsagar Subbudu", a Tamil translation of (late) Subbudu’s biography by Dr. Akila Sivaraman, was released by Shri R. Krishnaswamy (Senior Advocate and Secretary, Narada Gana Sabha, Chennai). Dr. V. V. Srivatsa (Musicologist) released the book on Lord Krishna in Tamil, "Alai Payuthe, Kanna!" authored by Shri R. Narasimhan.
Shri V. R. Lakshminarayanan, Chairman of the Kendra, presided over the function and Shri T. K. Parameswaran, Director, gave a brief account of Bhavan’s Book University and Shri K. N. Ramaswamy, Joint Director, compered the programme. The function was followed by singing of abhang by Smt. Pushpa Anand and party.

Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidyashram girl gets Bronze Medal in Junior Figure Skating Challenge

Ms. K. Aaradhana, a 4th standrsd. student of Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidhyashram, Chennai won a Bronze Medal in the Juvenile Girl’s B event in the "2008 Asian Junior Figure Skating Challenge", in Hong Kong, China on May 5 and 6.
Earlier, Aradhana had earned a name for herself by winning
Two Gold Medals in both 100m and 200m (Ice Skating) in the "2007 Short Track Speed Skating Fall/Winter Ranking Competition" held on Oct. 15, 16 and 17, 2007, in Taipei, Taiwan. She has also won a Silver Medal in the Girl’s Single Juvenile event in the "2007 Asian Junior Figure Skating Challenge", sub junior category in Hong Kong, China on April 16, 2007.
She has till date won 10 Gold, 6 Silver and 5 Bronze medals.
