Sangeet and Nartan Shikshapeeth |

The 61 st
Annual Programme of Bhavan’s Bharatiya Sangeet and Nartan
Shikshapeeth was held on April 18 – 19, at the Geeta Mandir,
Chowpatty.
The programme began with choral presentations by the pupils
in the Children’s Section and subsequently by the adult
students, a sitar vadan by Shri Hari Sharma with tabla
sangat by Shri Shrutendra Kathgade and a Hindustani
Gayan by Shri Nitin Sampat with tabla sangat by Shri
Shrutendra Kathgade and harmonium by Pt. Gurudutt Heblekar
were followed.
Later in the evening, several items in
Kathak Nritya and Bharat Natyam by pupils were conducted by
the concerned teachers.
The Annual Programme on April 19 evening
commenced with a Hindustani Gayan by Kum. Priya Purushothaman
who presented Ragas Bheempalasi, Shree and lastly a Bhajan.
Tabla sangat was provided by staffer Shri Shrutendra
Kathgade and on the harmonium by senior staffer Pt. Gurudutt
Heblekar.
The evening’s concluding item was a sitar recital by the
renowned virtuoso, Ustad Shamim Ahmed Khan, a senior most
disciple of Bharat Ratna Pt. Ravi Shankar. He gave a masterful
rendition of Raga Yaman Kalyan and then a concluding piece in
Raga Khamaj. He was accompanied on sitar by his disciple, Shri
Rasik Hazare, and on tabla by Shri Mukundraj Deo.

Bhavan’s Author Padmashri Vaidya Suresh
Chaturvedi has been honoured by Ram Narayan Vaidya Award 2004,
founded by late Pandit Rama Narayan Vaidya Ayurveda Trust, for
his contribution to the field of Ayurvedic Education and
Treatment.
Vaidya Suresh Chatuvedi is a learned
scholar of Ayurveda with excellence in teaching and practice
of Ayurveda.
The Bhavan has published five of his books : (i) Neem in
Ayurveda, (ii) Gita and Health, (iii) Kaayaa Kalp (Hindi) and
(iv) Gita Mein Arogya (Hindi) and (iv) Ayurveda for you.
