Seminar on 'Water Management in Ancient India'

M.M. Dr. P. V. Kane Institute for P. G. Studies and Research, Asiatic Society of Mumbai, organized its annual Kane Seminar on 'Water Management in Ancient India', on Saturday, 24-2-2018.The eminent Sanskrit scholar Dr. Uma Vaidya, former Vice Chancellor, Kavi Kulaguru Kalidas Sanskrit University, Ramtek (Maharashtra); inaugurated the seminar, and delivered the key-note address. Dr. Suraj Pandit, Mr. Anand Kanitkar, Dr. Tejas Garge and other scholars presented their research papers on various aspects of the theme. Dr. Madhavi Narsalay, Dr. A.S. Pathak and Dr. Gita Kasturi chaired the paper-reading sessions.
Dr. Milind Paradkar, Research Officer, Bhavan's P.G. and Research Dept., presented a paper on 'Water Management from Harappan forts to Medieval forts : Story of a Legacy'. In his paper, he discussed the topics like rain-water harvesting, storage of water, its lifting and conveyance devices, as well as the role of water management in ensuring the welfare and well-being of people protected by the forts in ancient India.
Prof. V.S. Shinde, Vice Chancellor, Deccan College Deamed University, Pune; delivered the valedictory address, and Dr. Parineeta Deshpande, Hon. Director of the Kane Institute, proposed the vote of thanks.
