Thiruvananthapuram Kendra
Journalism has bright future in India
Inaugurating of new batch
Media in the Western countries subsist now with challenges and twists, but the future of Journalism in India is bright, affirmed Shri T. P. Sreenivasan, former Indian Ambassador to UN and the Patron of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Thiruvananthapuram Kendra. He was inaugurating the classes for the new batch of Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism (PGDJ) Course at Bhavan's Towers, Poojappura on 10th August 2015. The Kendra Chairman Shri K. S. Premachandra Kurup IAS (Rtd.) presided over the function.
Drastic changes are operative from basic Reporting to various aspects of Journalism. Thus Sreenivasan reiterated that Media acitivities are widely spreading incongruent to the economic development of the world. President of Colombia University, which is topmost in qualitative Media studies, was of the view that Journalism cannot be taught since it is of genius and creativity. But even that University is not of withering the teaching of Journalism, pointed out Sreenivasan, that new dimensions are being brought out for coaching in the realm of Media. Unprecedented challenges face the media these days. Hundreds of Journalists in Western countries are becoming jobless. Still India has notable progress in its tradition of Journalism. Hence we have to expand this to the unlimited areas of Communication and so the Bhavan's courses in this regard are highly relevant, he added.
The renowned writer and the Kendra Vice Chairman Dr. Ezhumattoor Raja Raja Varma delivered the felicitation address. Shri S. Radhakrishnan, Bhavan's former student and presently Director, Prasar Bharati Southern Regional Academy, Thiruvananthapuram and Shri J. Ajithkumar, former President of Press Club, Thiruvananthapuram spoke on this occasion. Shri Prem C. Nair extended welcome to the gathering and Shri V. K. Narayanan, Principal of the Journalism Institute extended vote of thanks.
