Humbling words that aptly describe what the Sanskriti Group of Bhavan's Vidya Mandir, Girinagar - a group dedicated to service and charity - strive to achieve through our endeavours.
In this academic year we began with our monthly contribution of 3000 to SVMM Hospital, Wayanad, to provide one-day meals for the students of the tuition centre at Kannothkunnu Tribal colony and a monthly contribution of 4000 for the juvenile diabetic patient medicines. This is a practice we have been maintaining for the past couple of years.
The teachers belonging to the Sanskriti group, along with a few students visited some of the houses at Chilavannur and Girinagar regions, Kochi, during Onam and distributed food kits, as our way of celebrating the festival provision of Onam. More than 20 families, who belong to the lower income group and struggling with financial difficulties, have been the recipients of these gifts.
During the first week of September Smt. Renuka, a Sanskriti group member, visited the Kannothkunnu Tribal Colony, Wayanad, for conducting and participating in Onam celebrations at the colony, as carried out by the Sanskrit group in the previous years. But unfortunately one of the elders there, a tribal woman, passed away, so Renuka decided to postpone the Onam celebrations. She spent a few hours with the mourning family and joined the ritual performances for the dead and provided financial help to the family of the old woman, from the school charity fund. During the vacation Smt. Renuka also visited Sree Sankara Vidya Peedam School, Cherukara, Wayanad. School was started in 2002, with an aim of uplifting the tribal children through proper education. It is managed by Shri Janardhanan, a devoted social worker of the region.
As per the request of the teachers of the school, Smt. Renuka talked to them about the novel methods of teaching. She also participated in the medical camp for the tribal people conducted by Amrita Hospital. The Sanskriti group distributed 100 blankets to the hospital. Kudos to parents of Meenakshi, a X standard student who contributed 50 of the blankets.
The district level inauguration of "Amma Ariyan", a school based health awareness programme of Malayala Manorama along with the Indian academy of Pediatrics (IAP) was conducted in BVM, Girinagar, Kochi. The programme was supported and arranged by the Sanskriti Group.
