Kalasrjan Academy of Indian Classical Music, Dance & Fine Arts is the cultural wing of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Nagpur Kendra. It was launched in August 2008 to nurture and promote India's arts in its pure classical form through the 'Guru-Shishya Parampara'.
On the occasion of Guru Purnima, Kalasrjan put up a programme called Guru Vandana. The event also commemorated the punyatithi of late Padmabhushan K. Venkatalakshamma, doyen of the Mysore Bani and late Shri Madhavan Nair ('Mali'), a noted musicologist, with performances of Bharatnatyam, Kathak and Mohiniattam by the senior dance gurus of Kalasrjan.
There were mesmerizing items put up by Smt. Shrimathy Madkholkar (Bharatnatyam), Smt. Radhika Sathe and Smt. Lalita Hardas (Kathak), and Smt. Malini Menon (Mohiniattam). A unique presentation was 'Ganesh Stuti' a fusion dance showcasing all the classical styles.
Smt. Madkholkar performed a 'Saraswati Stuti', Tillana and a Javali. Smt. Malini Menon essayed 'Navarasanjali', which left the audience spellbound. Smt. Radhika Sathe's 'Durga Stuti' and 'Talpaksh', and Smt. Lalita Hardas's 'Hori' in Kathak, enthralled the audience of students, parents, special invitees and the general public.
The chief guest was Dr. A. K. Mukherjee, Associate Secretary, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Nagpur Kendra and the guest of honour was Dr. K. Venkateshan, Commissioner of Police, Nagpur,. Also gracing the occasion from the Nagpur kendra were Dr. Smt. Sunanda Sonarikar, secretary, Shri K. M. Agrawal, treasurer, Shri Rajendra Purohit, associate secretary, Dr. Smt. Panna Akhani, committee member, Smt. A. Shastri, director. Justice V. S. Shirpurkar, retired Supreme Court judge was also present.
Shri. T.G.L. Iyer, former director, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Smt. Kumkum Shirpurkar, Shri T. L. Raja, joint director, Dr. Kumar Shastri, core committee member, principals Smt. Parwati Iyer, Smt. Vandana Bisen and Ms. Kirti Mishra, and faculty members Smt. Rajeshwari Nilkanthan, and Shri Vedant Mandavgane were also present.
Smt. Renuka Deshkar added sparkle to the show with her excellent compering.
