The 5th edition of Model United Nations Conference BVCMUN'14 concluded with an impressive Prize Distribution Ceremony on August 3, 2014. The Guests of Honour were Shri P. R. Aggarwal, Honorary Secretary of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Chandigarh and Shri Madhukar Malhotra - an eminent rotarian and a noted Kendra Committee member.
The theme of the mega conference was 'Ad Astra Per Adversa'- The Urge to Surge. 300 student delegates from 45 Schools participated representing 119 Countries. Bhavan Vidyalaya played host to many well known schools from the tri-city, Sanawar, New Delhi- NCR, Jaipur, Jammu and Srinagar. Two teams came from Lahore making the event an international venture.
The three day long conference commenced with a spectacular Opening Ceremony held at Tagore Theatre on August 1.
BVCMUN provided an ideal platform of debating and discussions to the young delegates.
This year six committees were simulated -
(i) United Nations General Assembly - DISEC
(ii) United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation
(iii)United Nations Convention Against Corruption - Conference of State Parties (CoSP)
(iv) United Nations Committee On the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space
(v) United Nations Security Council
(vi) Indo-Pak Special Meet on Kashmir.
The agendas were related to crucial global issues.
Shri P. R. Aggarwal lauded the outstanding performance of the delegates while Shri Madhukar Malhotra congratulated the students for their excellent team work .
The Convener, Aman Jagdev and Chief of Staff Isherjit Singh addressed the delegates and the Secretary General Vinayak Singla declared BVCMUN'14 closed.
* The Best Delegation award was bagged by Delhi Public School, Noida.
* The Coveted Secretary General''s Best Delegate Award went to - Shobhit Singh Arora of DPS International, Saket. He represented Australia in UNSC.
The other prestigious awards included the following:
* United Nations General Assembly
Best Delegate: Daksh Kadian, Bhavan's Vidyalaya Chandigarh - represented USA.
* United Nations Convention Against Corruption
Best Delegate: Anupriya Dhonchak, Bhavan's Vidyalaya Chandigarh - represented USA.
* Indo-Pak Special Meet on Kashmir
Best Delegate: Aditya Sharma, Bhavan's Vidyalaya Panchkula - represented Honorable Prime Minister of India.
