Established in 1945, the Department conducts courses in advanced Sanskrit studies namely,
- Praveshika,
- Purva Madhyama,
- Uttara Madhyama,
- Shastri, and
- Acharya.
The Governments of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh have recognised the Shastri and Acharya certificates given by the Bhavan, as equivalent to B.A. and M.A. respectively, for the purpose of recruitment to the teaching profession. These Governments have also recognised the Purva Madhyama and Uttara Madhyama Examinations as equivalent to S.S.C. and H.S.C. respectively.
The Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, which is under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (Department of Education), has recognised Purva Madhyama for enrolment in the courses of Prak Shastri prescribed by them.
Since its inception, over 55,500 students have appeared for these examinations, students belonging to various religions such as Islam, Zoroastrianism and Buddhism, besides Hinduism. |
