Swaminathan is also widely known at home and abroad for his pioneering work on the blending of traditional and frontier technologies for achieving an ever-green revolution in farming. A specialist in plant tissue culture, R.D. Iyer, since his teaching and research career days, has been associated with Dr. M.S. Swaminathan and was awarded a Ph.D. in botany under his guidance.
