Sabh Meh Jyote Jyote Hai Soie,
Tis De Chanan Sabh Meh Chanan Hoi
Gur Sakhi Jyote Pargat Hoi
Jo Tis Bhave So Aarti Hoi
(SGGS-13)
You are the Jyote in the entire Creation. Your Jyoti shines within all souls. Your Divine Jyote becomes manifest by the Guru’s teachings. Your True Aarti (worship) is that which pleases You.
Every History book of our land whether from the historians of the West or those of Indian origin, the remarkable roles played by the Sikh Gurus during the period from 15th to 18th centuries; have not received fair mention. In order to make amends and with the intention of making the world aware of the great contributions of the great Gurus, the Bhavan has undertaken the task of publishing the English translation of a monumental Marathi Book on this subject under the title Ten Gurus of the Sikhs: Their Life Story authored by the 83 year old Smt. Kusum P. Ghatage and translated into English by Smt. Pramila Naniwadekar and Gp. Capt. (Retd.) Moreshwar Naniwadekar.
The word Sikh is derived from sishya which means learner or disciple. The ambition of the founder of Sikhism was to create a society of people, which could face all the worldly challenges.
Sikhism today is more than 500 years old. It has a close relation to the Bhakti cult. It believes in one God and the unity of mankind without distinction of caste.
It rejects meaningless rituals and believes in the sanctity of congregation. It emphasises work as a moral obligation. Sikhism stands for love, compassion and charity.
Guru Shri Nanak Dev Ji lit the first light on this Path. He was blessed by God Almighty with vision, compassion and a burning desire to elevate the life of the common man; correcting the existing misunderstandings and teach them that remembering God was the highest religion.

About Kusum P. Ghatage
|

Prof. H. C. Gaur started his career as a scientist with a Ph.D. (1949) and was awarded D.Sc. (in 1960). He taught Chemistry at Delhi University for four decades, during which he was Head of Chemistry Department and Dean, Science Faculty. After retirement in 1990, he was drawn to spirituality and attended daily pravacanas at the nearby temple. These covered various discourses from the Bhagavadgita, or topics from Bhagvata, Upanisads, Puranas and texts as Vivekachudamani, which he followed with self-study (svadhyaya). After seven years, he started writing articles to share his thoughts with others similarly inclined. These appeared in the monthly magazine Kalyana Kalpataru (published by Gita Press, Gorakhpur), under the column ‘Meditation’ of Hindustan Times and serially under the column ‘Horizons’ of the Pioneer; 175 articles have been published so far. Three years ago, some of these were compiled in a book entitled, “Understanding Isavasya Upanisad – an Exegetical Exposition”, which was published under Book University Series of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (BVB). The present book entitled “Knowledge and Wisdom”, also based on the published articles.
