The Amritsar Kendra was founded in 1987. The Kendra functions from a magnificent building located in the heart of Amritsar City. Its foundation stone was laid in 1981 by Shri Jai SukhLal Hathi, the then Governor of Punjab and Chairman, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mumbai, Head Office and Shri PD Kumar, the Founder Chairman of Amritsar kendra in the presence of Sh. RL Bhatia, the then MP. Shri PD Kumar was an industrialist and a divine soul who donated his land for the welfare of residents of Amritsar. This kendra is brought to the zenith due to his sincere efforts which was further propelled by Shri Avinash Mohindru, the then Vice Chairman. As the Amritsar Kendra is a staunch believer of Indian traditions and Values, therefore efforts are always restored in creating an awareness of these values in all the Institutions run under his ageis. Bhavan’s S L Public School organised Prize Distribution Ceremony for the students of P. D. Kumar Memorial Gyandeep School, Shivala Bhaiyan, Bhavan’s R.L. Mittal Memorial School, Islamabad and Bhavan’s Gandhi Institute of Computer Education and Information Technology along with Bhavan’s Muskan School on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. The event commenced with a Bhajan by the students of DAV International School (Winner of Sahodaya Schools Complex) followed by the performance of Gyan Deep students and Prize Distribution Ceremony. A quiz competition on Gandhiji’s life and general knowledge was organised at the school in which students from Classes 2 to 10 participated. The winning students in the competition were awarded with prizes. This was followed by ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ (75 years of Independence). To commemorate the memory of the Father of the Nation, Bhajan, Patriotic Group Song and Painting Competitions based on the life ideals and themes of Mahatma Gandhi were organised at Bhavans. A total of 522 participants from 30 schools participated. Around 128 participants from 13 schools participated in the Inter School Drama contest.
On September 29, 2022 Matri Puja was organised on the premises of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan SL Public School, Shivala Road, Amritsar under the direction of the Chairman of the school, Mr. Avinash Mahendru and Director Principal Dr. Anita Bhalla. Professor Laxmikanta Chawla President (Durgiana Mandir) graced the event as the chief guest and participated in the rituals along with the members of Bhavans committee. The children performed ritualistic sanctification, earth worship, foot-washing of their mothers, Ardhayapan etc.
It is a matter of pride for the management committee and teachers of Bhavan’s SL Public School that Sukhwinder Kaur, has been awarded CBSE Honour for Excellence in teaching and leadership for the academic year 2021-22 in the category of primary teachers out of 19 awardees from 25000 CBSE schools across the country.
On the occasion of Teacher’s Day, Smt. Sukhwinder Kaur was awarded Rs. 50000 in cash and a certificate by Shri Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, Minister of State for Education, Government of India. This is a unique and commendable moment for the school as 18 teachers of Chandigarh Zone have been awarded with National CBSE Best Teacher Award in the last 5 years in which the pride of receiving 9 awards goes to the teachers of Bhavan’s. This award is given by the Central Board of Secondary Education to those talented teachers who have given their incomparable services in the field of education.
Bhavans Kala Kendra presented ‘Dhamaal Lok Geetan Di’, a live music and dance performance by staff and students on August 28, September 3 and 4, 2022 at Bhavan’s Main Branch, Islamabad Branch and Ashray (a home for senior citizens and abandoned girls) under the direction of Shri Avinash Mohindru and Director Principal Dr. Anita Bhalla. The participants sang various Punjabi folk songs and performed folk dances. They sang the evergreen songs of the legendary folk artistes like Surinder Kaur, Asha Singh Mastana, Noor Jahan, Parkash Kaur, Wadali brothers, Gurdas Maan and many more. Their repertoire ranged from the time of birth through the different stages of joy and sorrow in life. The audience was mesmerised by the performances.
Bhavan’s SL Public School celebrated Janmashtami 2022 on its premises on August 18, 2022. The celebration began with the floral welcome of the honourable chief guest Sh. Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh IPS (Retd.) MLA. Dr. (Prof.) Amit Kauts (Dean Faculty of Education, GNDU) and Dr. (Prof.) Deepa Kauts (Head Dept. of Education GNDU) were also present as the Guests of Honour.
Among other dignitaries, Dr. Savita Sachdeva (Retd. Principal S. R. Government College for Women, Asr), Shri. Harish Sharma (Retd. Head of Dept. of History, GNDU) and Shri. Dharmendra (Retd. Prof. of Fine arts, Hindu College) were the special guests for the judgement. The students were dressed up as Lord Krishna and Radha and the premises were decorated beautifully. The spirit of festivity was enhanced with beautiful jhankis of Lord Krishna. The main attraction of the event was the breaking of the treasure-filled matki.
