The Amritsar Kendra was founded in 1987. The Kendra functions from a magnificent building located in the heart of Amritsar City. Its foundation stone was laid in 1981 by Shri Jai SukhLal Hathi, the then Governor of Punjab and Chairman, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mumbai, Head Office and Shri PD Kumar, the Founder Chairman of Amritsar kendra in the presence of Sh. RL Bhatia, the then MP. Shri PD Kumar was an industrialist and a divine soul who donated his land for the welfare of residents of Amritsar. This kendra is brought to the zenith due to his sincere efforts which was further propelled by Shri Avinash Mohindru, the then Vice Chairman. As the Amritsar Kendra is a staunch believer of Indian traditions and Values, therefore efforts are always restored in creating an awareness of these values in all the Institutions run under his ageis. Kendra is also committed to serve society and therefore always in forefront for the social engagements and Community Services. Some of the Community Programmes of the Kendra are listed below:

  • Chinmaya Monthly Widow Ration Pension Distribution
    (Ration of worth Rs. 2 Lacs is distributed to 250 Needy widows every month)
  • Mass Marriages
    (It is a bi-annual program in which students and staff of Bhavans SL Public School collectively arrange for the marriages of the girls belonging to needy families).

Nrityanjali

Bhavan’s Kala Kendra conducted the 71st Kala Kendra event “Nrityanjali” on June 19, 2022 at Bhavans SL Public School, Amritsar under the direction of Shri Avinash Mohindru and Director Principal Dr. Anita Bhalla, in which various artistes of Punjab performed Kathak. All the performers were awarded certificates for their performances.


Excellent Performance

Bhavan’s student Hardik Sharma, Class 12 (Non-Medical), has qualified KVPY-SX (Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojna) with 586 All India Rank and brought laurels to the institute and district by bagging first position in Amritsar. KVPY is a programme of the Government of India where students who qualify are eligible for a fellowship as well as admission into premier institutes like IISc, IISER etc.


50th Anniversary of Bangladesh Liberation

Bhavan’s Amritsar Kendra and Amritsar First Foundation commemorated the 50th Anniversary of Bangladesh Liberation to make alive the memories of the most charismatic Field Marshal S.H.F.J. Manekshaw on May 8, 2022. The occasion was graced by Lt General Vijay Oberoi as a Chief Guest along with Major General Balwinder Singh. The function was presided over by Dr. Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, MLA. The function commenced with the auspicious lighting of the lamp followed by a welcome address. Bhavan’s Chairman Sh. Avinash Mohindru formally welcomed all the guests present there. Lt. General Oberoi in his address threw light on the sacrifices of Bangladeshis and encouraged young people to join Indian army. Moments from the life of Marshal S.H.F.J Manekshaw were also shown through
slide show.


Jeevan ke Rang Sur Nritya Ke Sang

Bhavan’s Kala Kendra conducted a wonderful 70th Kala Kendra event “Jeevan ke rang sur Nritya ke Sang” on May 22, 2022 at Bhavan’s SL Public School, Amritsar, in which Bhavans teachers as well as students gave spellbinding dance and musical performances. Dr. Inderbir Singh, MLA, Amritsar was the Chief Guest and Dr. Arun Chopra, Director Cardiology Fortis Hospital, Amritsar was guest of honour on this occasion.


Mesmerising Musical Nights

Bhavan’s Kala Kendra, Amritsar organised three consecutive musical nights entitled Surmai Shaam, Golden Hits of Bollywood and Geeto Bhari Shaam on April 24, 25 and  26 at the main branch, Bhavan’s Ashray and Islamabad branch respectively. Prashant Naseri, Bollywood singer from Mumbai and Indu Bala Sehgal, Indian Idol finalist 2012, and radio and TV artiste, were the main singers. They were accompanied by the school musical team. Dr. Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh MLA, was the chief guest at Bhavan’s main branch and Dr. Jasbir Singh Sandhu MLA, and Dr. Ajay Gupta MLA, were the chief guests at the Islamabad branch.
