The Amritsar Kendra was founded in 1987. The Kendra functions from a magnificent building located in the heart of Amritsar City. Its foundation stone was laid in 1981 by Shri Jai SukhLal Hathi, the then Governor of Punjab and Chairman, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mumbai, Head Office and Shri PD Kumar, the Founder Chairman of Amritsar kendra in the presence of Sh. RL Bhatia, the then MP. Shri PD Kumar was an industrialist and a divine soul who donated his land for the welfare of residents of Amritsar. This kendra is brought to the zenith due to his sincere efforts which was further propelled by Shri Avinash Mohindru, the then Vice Chairman. As the Amritsar Kendra is a staunch believer of Indian traditions and Values, therefore efforts are always restored in creating an awareness of these values in all the Institutions run under his ageis. Kendra is also committed to serve society and therefore always in forefront for the social engagements and Community Services. Some of the Community Programmes of the Kendra are listed below:

  • Chinmaya Monthly Widow Ration Pension Distribution
    (Ration of worth Rs. 2 Lacs is distributed to 250 Needy widows every month)
  • Mass Marriages
    (It is a bi-annual program in which students and staff of Bhavans SL Public School collectively arrange for the marriages of the girls belonging to needy families).

Widow Ration Pension Distribution

Under the auspices of Chinmaya Mission Amritsar, the 281st Chinmaya Widow Ration Pension (Monthly) Distribution Programme was organised on December 7, 2025. The programme was graced by the special guests Prof. Dr. Arvind Bhardwaj (NIT Jalandhar), Ms. Reeta Sharma (Past District Chairman, Inner Wheel District 307, Amritsar), and Mr. Varun Nivetia (Proprietor, S.V. Traders—Cashew Dealers, Amritsar), whose presence enhanced the dignity of the event.
In his address, Shri Avinash Mohindru, President of Chinmaya Mission shared that this noble service has been continuing uninterrupted for the last 24 years and that ration worth Rs. 1500 per month is provided to the widow sisters. He added that for the education of their children, Bhavan’s Gyandeep School (free school) and Bhavan’s Gandhi Computer Centre (free computer centre) are always ready to support them. He also urged them to remember God in all circumstances and introduced all the special guests. Bhavan’s teachers, students of Bhavan’s Study Group and staff members participated in the ration distribution.

Wushu Federation Cup—2025

Jasnoor Singh Sandhu and Ekamjeet Singh of Bhavans SL Public School, Amritsar put up a remarkable performance in the 9th Punjab State Wushu Federation Cup—2025, held in Lovely Professional University from 5th to 7th December 2025. By bagging a gold medal Jasnoor Singh Sandhu from Class 11 secured his place for Nationals to be held in Chhattisgarh whereas Ekamjeet Singh from Class 8 bagged a silver medal.

Punjab State Special Olympics

Students of Bhavans Muskaan School (A Special School for ID, CP and AUTISTIC Children) a unit of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan SL Public School, Amritsar, delivered an outstanding performance at the 26th Punjab State Special Olympics. The event was organised by the District Special Olympics Association at Jalandhar, Punjab, from December 12 to 14, 2025.
Four students represented the school with great determination and sportsmanship. Anushka won two gold medals in the 100m Track Race and Mini Javelin, along with a silver in Power Lifting. Eknoor Kaur secured two silver medals in the 25m Track Race and Softball Throw, and a bronze in Bocce. Priya earned a gold in the 25m Track Race, a silver in Softball Throw, and a bronze in Bocce. Hunarpreet Kaur added to the tally with a gold in Shot Put and two silver medals in the 100m Race and Power Lifting.


Programme on Bulle Shah

Bhavan’s Kala Kendra organised 111th Kala Kendra programme i.e. grand Hindi dance, drama and musical presentation based on the life and events of Sufi Saint Bulle Shah on October 4, 2025 on the premises of Bhavan SL Public School. S. Gurpreet Singh Bhullar (IPS Commissioner Police, Amritsar) graced the event as the chief guest and S. Surinder Singh (PCS Additional Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Amritsar) was present as the guest of honour. The play was directed by Guru Rajeshwari Sharma (Kathak dancer) and Shri Ajay Sharma (Theatre performer). In the wonderful presentation, the life philosophy of ‘Bulle Shah’ was depicted. The play also highlighted the importance of detaching oneself from the world and surrendering completely to true love without pretension to attain God.


Kala Kendra Cultural Programme

Under the direction of Bhavan’s Management Committee, the 109th monthly cultural programme, ‘Anmol Yaaden’ was organised with great enthusiasm on August 25, 2025 at Bhavans SL.Public School, Amritsar. In this colourful musical evening, Mr. Prashant Naseri (Play back Singer from Mumbai, A World Record Holder), Ms. Indu Bala (Indian Idol Fame, 2012) mesmerised the audience with their melodious performances. Mr. S Gurpreet Singh Bhullar (IPS Commissioner Police, Amritsar) was present as the Chief Guest and Mr. Narendra Sharma (Senior Town Planner) and Mr. Sodhi graced the programme as special guests.

Sri Guru Nanak Devji Prakash Utsav

Prakash Utsav of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s 556th birth anniversary was celebrated on the premises of Bhavans SL Public School Amritsar with great devotion and enthusiasm.
Sri Jagdish Lakhani (Executive Secretary and Director General Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Mumbai) Sh SG Aney (Trustee and member Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Mumbai) and Dr. Dinesh K Daftary (Trustee Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Mumbai) graced the occasion as chief guests. Dr. Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh IPS (Retd.) and Rtn. Dr. PS Grover, Sushree Ruhi Arora (Counsellor), principals from All India Bhavans Schools, the members of Chinmay Mission Amritsar and senior citizens from Bhavans Aashray Amritsar also marked their presence in the event. The occasion began with the pious chanting of Vaahe Guru followed by Shabad Kirtan which created devotional ambience. The event ended with Guru Ka Langar served by students and teachers of the school.

XVI All India Principals Conference

Under the aegis of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Amritsar Kendra, the ‘All India Conference for Principals of Bhavans Secondary and Senior Secondary Schools’ was organised from November 6-9, 2025 at Bhavan S. L. Public School, Amritsar on the theme “Expanding Horizons Without Losing Roots”. The inauguration of the event was conducted via video conference by His Excellency Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh Union Territory. In his address, he highlighted the significant role of teachers and appreciated the way Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan continuously promotes Indian culture, traditions, and educational values.
The event was further graced by distinguished guests including Shri Jagdish Lakhani (Executive Secretary & Director General, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mumbai), Shri S. G. Aney (Trustee & Member, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mumbai), Dr. Dinesh K. Daftari (Trustee, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mumbai), Swami Mitrananda (Head, Chinmaya Mission, Chennai), Shri. Madhukar Malhotra (Secretary, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Chandigarh) and Shri. Pauly Menachery (Director, Bhavans Shikshan Bharati, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mumbai), whose esteemed presence added grandeur to the ceremony.
Each day was marked by mesmerising performances by the students and numerous thought-provoking discussions by various experts and dignitaries. Certificates of participation and mementos were presented to all the principals for their meaningful participation in the XVI All India Principal’s Conference in Bhavans. The conference concluded with great success, igniting a renewed spirit of unity, inspiration, and commitment among all Bhavans principals to lead with wisdom and purpose.


Fencing Championship

Tanishka, a student of Bhavan’s S.L. Public School, Amritsar, gave an outstanding performance in the CBSE National Fencing Championship held at Delhi Public School, Rudrapur (Uttarakhand) from 30th September to 5th October.
In this competition, she emerged victorious by winning the gold medal, bringing pride and glory to the school.

Basketball Tournament

The school basketball team showcased an excellent performance at the 69th School District Basketball Tournament, securing the third position. The tournament was organised at the School of Eminence, Mall Road, on September 18-19, 2025.
The Under-19 Girls’ team displayed great skill and determination, with some members performing exceptionally well. These included Siya Sethi (Class 11), Purvika (Class 11), Harpal (Class 10), Ayushi (Class 9), Ginni (Class 10), Noor (Class 10), Muskan (Class 10), and Falak (Class 12).

Talk by Swami Avyayananda

Under the auspices of Chinmaya Mission Amritsar, Pujya Swami Avyayananda (Head, Chinmaya Mission New Delhi & Singapore) delivered informative talks for students of Bhavan’s SL Public School on October 15, 2025. The topics were ‘Fall and Rise’ for students of grades 8, 9, 11 and 12, and ‘What is God’ for students of grades 5, 6, and 7. Swamiji beautifully explained the ups and downs of life through the courageous and inspiring story of an elderly man. The overall message he conveyed was, “Learn to get up after falling. The one who falls also rises. No downturn is the last moment of life; rather, it is where the ups and downs begin. Therefore, we must not stop in life.”
On the topic ‘What is God?’ he explained the concept through relatable examples—just as a pot made from mud returns to mud after it breaks, and gold ornaments when melted turn back into gold, everything in this universe originates from one source and ultimately merges back into it.


CBSE Rope Skipping Competition

Bhavan’s S. L. Public School, Amritsar, has always been committed to the holistic development of its students. Proving this once again, the students showcased an excellent performance in the CBSE Rope Skipping Competition held from September 11–14 at Sage International School, Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh).
The event witnessed the participation of 300 students from 76 teams across different categories. Bhavan’s S.L. Public School’s Under-19 Boys Team delivered a stellar performance, winning the Gold Medal and securing the first position, thereby bringing laurels to the school.
The winning team comprised Krishiv Khavaria (Class 7), Ashish Sharma (Class 9), Tanmay Berry (Class 10), and Lavish Thukral (Class 11).

All India Ranging Table Tennis Championship

A student of Bhavan’s S.L. Public School, Amritsar, brought laurels to the institution with an outstanding performance in the All India Ranging Table Tennis Championship held in Delhi from September 8 to 14.
Satvik Sharma clinched the silver medal in the national-level event, which witnessed participation from nearly 3,000 players across the country. His achievement marks a historic milestone for the school, as it is the first time a Bhavan’s student has earned such prestigious success at this championship.
In recognition of his remarkable performance, the Punjab Table Tennis Association awarded Satvik a cash prize of Rs. 31,000, while ADTTA announced Rs. 11,000 and TTFI added Rs. 4,600. Sports brand Puma also felicitated him with a complete kit.

Krishna Janmashtami Celebration

Bhavans S.L. Public School celebrated Janmashtami with great devotion and reverence on the school premises on August 13, 2025. On this occasion, Pujya Swamini Vimlanandaji (Chinmaya Mission, Coimbatore) was the honourable Chief Guest, and Shri Rakesh Keshav (President of Chinmaya Mission, Ludhiana) was the Guest of Honour respectively.
Through a vibrant cultural programme, the students of the school immersed everyone in the devotion of Lord Krishna. Students of Bhavan’s Muskaan School (School for Special Children) presented a beautiful dance performance.

National Championship in Power Lifting

Bharat Bhandari, a student of ‘Bhavan’s Saksham’—a Rehabilitation and Vocational Training Centre for Persons with Disabilities has made Amritsar proud by winning the National Championship in Power Lifting. He represented Punjab at National Olympics Games for Special Children held at New Delhi from September 23-27, 2025 where he outclassed all others to bag the gold medal. Now he will represent India in International Olympics Games for Special Children in Chile (South America).
Bharat who has cortical atrophy developed interest in the game of power lifting. He did not allow his disability to discourage him. This interest gradually inspired him to take part and win in local level competitions.
He participated in State level Games at Ludhiana and qualified for the National Games held at New Delhi where he won the Gold Medal to emerge as National Champion. Enthusiastically lauding his achievement, Bharat was accorded a warm welcome at Ludhiana and Amritsar railway stations by the President of Distt Special Olympics Association and Distt Sports Director.
