  • Kulapati Munshiji lays the foundation of the Bhavan (November 7, 1938).
1939
  • The first activities of the Bhavan started in the premises of the Fellow school on June,1.
1939
  • Mungalal Goenka Sanshodhan Mandir and Mumbadevi Sanskrit Pathashala are started (September 1, 1939).
1940
  • Kulapati Munshiji lays the foundation stone of the Bhavan's first building at Andheri, Bombay (September 14, 1940).
1941
  • Dr. S. Radhakrishnan opens the Bhavan's first building at Andheri.
1943
  • The Endowment of the Singhi Jain series and Library.
1944
  • The Bharatiya Itihasa Vibhag is organised.
1945
  • The Gita Vidyalaya and the Bhavan's examinations in Sanskrit and Gita are inaugurated.
1946
  • Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel opens the Bhavan's Megji Mathuradas College of Arts and Narrondass Manordass Institute of Science, Andheri, Bombay (July).
  • The Sanskrit Pathashala is reorganised and developed into the Mumbadevi Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya.
  • The Bhavan confers Hon. Membership on Sardar Vallabhai Patel.
  • Dr. Rajendra Prasad inaugurates the Free India Agricultural and Industrial Exhibition organised in support of the Bhavan.
1947
  • Munshiji lays the foundation - stone of the Bhavan's Central Home on February 23 at Harvey Road.
  • The starting of the Munshi Saraswati Mandir incorporating the Library, Museum, Sangit Shikshapith and Kala Kendra.
1948
  • Shri B. G. Kher opens the Lady Students' Hostel at Andheri, Bombay.
1949
  • Shri C. Rajagopalachari, Governor-General of India, opens the Bhavan's Central Home at Chowpatty, Bombay. (August 8, 1949)
1950
  • Shri Jawaharlal Nehru visits the Bhavan.
  • The Bhavan's Delhi Kendra is started.
  • The Bhavan acquires the major interest in the Associated Advertisers and Printers Ltd., Bombay, as a first step towards starting an Institute of Printing.
1951
  • The Bhavan organises the All-India Sanskrit Conference at Prabhas Patan, Gujarat State which founded the Sanskrit Vishva Parishad, on the occasion of the installation of the Jyotirlinga at Somnath Temple.
1952
  • Dr. Rajendra Prasad lays the foundation-stone of the Bhavan's Delhi Kendra.
  • Kulapati Munshiji lays the foundation stone of the new buildings for the Bhavan's college at Andheri, Bombay.
1953
  • Shri G. S. Bajpai, Governor of Bombay, opens the new building of the Bhavan's college at Andheri, Bombay.
1954
  • The starting of Bhavan's Journal, a fortnightly in English, devoted to life, literature and culture.
1955
  • Shri Dinkarrao N. Desai inaugurates the Nartan Shikshapith.
  • Munshiji lays the foundation-stone of the new building of the Bhavan's Arts College at Chowpatty, Bombay.
  • The Bhavan's Kanpur Centre is started.
1956
  • The Bhavan organises Easy Sanskrit Examinations.
  • The starting of Bharati, a fortnightly in Hindi.
  • Dr. Harekrushna Mahtab, Governor of Bombay, lays the foundation-stone of temple of Lord Chandrasekhara in Bhavan's Campus, Andheri, Bombay.
1957
  • Kulapati Munshiji lays the foundation-stone of the Bhavan's Kanpur Centre.
  • Shri Sriprakasa, Governor of Bombay, inaugurates the Bi-Decennial Celebrations of the Bhavan. (February 10)
  • Shri Girdharilal Mehta opens the new building of the Bhavan's Arts College at Chowpatty, Bombay.
  • Shri Jawaharlal Nehru, Prime-Minister of India, opens the Bhavan's Delhi centre. (May 16)
  • Dr. Rajendra Prasad, President of India, presides over the Bhavan's Eleventh Convocation.
