The book contains the substance of the lectures Dr R D Ranade delivered in the Karnataka University during 1954-57. Dr Ranade made comparative review of mystics of Kannada, Marathi, Hindi and English literature and has compared Prabhudeva with Socrates and Jesus and pointed out analogies in the ideas of Basavesvara, Plato and Tukaram.
Comparisons of Kannada saints with Greek philosophers, with Christian, Hindi and Maharashtrian mystics form the first part of the book. The author has spoken of contemplation of God as the all-doer, proper utilization of human life, removal of ad thoughts, characteristics of saints, their relation with God, various mystical experiences are included in this book.
