Title : Shyam's Mother
Author : Sane Guruji
Pages : 95
Price : ₹70
ISBN : 81-7276-178-3

About the book:

Sane Guruji's 'Shyamchi Aayee' brings out not only all the endearing aspects of the mother but the strength of her will to foster her children as heroes - bold and brave, generous and loving, kind and sympathetic. The setting is rural Konkan of Maharashtra and the mother portrayed is the mother anywhere else in India, loving and caring, gentle yet firm.
'Shyam's Mother' is about the greatness of the mother. She is not just the mother of a boy called Shyam. She stands as a symbol of Mother India - perhaps, even the benign Mother Goddess, though Sane Guruji doesn't say so.
Sane Guruji wrote 'Shyam's Mother' in Nashik jail in five days, between Thursday the 9th February and Monday the 13th February, 1933. He was in detention for his participation in the Civil Disobedience Movement of 1930.
The scene is a hostel where the boys (some of them inmates and some others staying outside) assemble after prayer in the night, to listen to Shyam. And Shyam tells the story of his mother as the central figure in a family facing misfortune with rare fortitude.
The story is told on 42 nights. The episode of each night highlights one or the other of the aspects of nobility of a loving mother.
