Bhavan's Mumbadevi Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya, established in 1939, was included in 'Adarsh Pathashala Scheme' of Ministry of Education, Government of India, in 1977, and was renamed as Mumbadevi Adarsh Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya. It is a leading Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya (Oriental College) in India, which is conducting courses for higher studies in Sanskrit Shastras (scriptures) - Vyakarana (grammar), Sahitya (Sanskrit poetics and creative literature) and Advaita-vedanta [philosophy of monism (non-dualism) propounded by Adi Shankaracharya].

Following courses are conducted at the Mahavidyalaya, and they are recognised by all State Govts., and Central Govt. :-

• Prak-Shastri (Higher Secondary Level Two-year Course)
• Shastri (Graduate Level Three-year Degree Course)
• Acharya (Post-Graduate Level Two-year Degree Course)

The Mahavidyalaya regularly organise talks, lectures, academic functions and Vagvardhini Sabha (debate in Sanskrit) for developing students' oratorical skills.

Eligibility & Course Details:

• The students who have passed S.S.C. Exam. (with Sanskrit)/H.S.C. Exam. (with Sanskrit) Exam. may apply respectively for Prak-Shastri/Shastri courses.
• Those students who have passed S.S.C. Exam. (without Sanskrit)/H.S.C. Exam. (without Sanskrit) Exam. may appear for entrance exam., and after clearing it, may apply respectively for Prak-Shastri/Shastri courses.
• Those students who have passed Shastri/B.A. (with Sanskrit) may apply for Acharya course.
• These three courses are available for three main subjects - Vyakarana, Sahitya and Advaitavedanta.
• Modern subjects like Hindi, English, and Computer learning are also included in the syllabus of these courses.
• The teaching for these courses is conducted absolutely free.
• Deserving students of Prak-Shastri, Shastri and Acharya courses are awarded respectively Rs. 700.00, Rs. 800.00, and Rs. 1000.00 scholarship per month.
• Free lodging and boarding (hostel) facility is also available for deserving students in limited number.

Process of Admission:

The students desirous of having admission to Prak-Shastri/Shastri/Acharya courses for the new academic year 2022-2023 are requested to send an email (with their full name, address, mobile no., and details of last examinations passed) to the Principal of Bhavan's Mumbadevi Adarsh Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya, for obtaining necessary details for admission.
