Kala Kendra started in 1948 is the Cultural and Art wing of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan devoted to the development and presentation of Indian Dance, Music, Literature and other Performing Arts. Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan has been a temple of cultural activities.
Kala Kendra develops and promotes amateur talents in various fields such as Drama, Dance, Music, Children’s Theatre and Experimental Theatre.
Kala Kendra organises cultural programmes of various kinds, as well as arranges lectures cum demonstrations on the various art forms. As a Production House, Kala Kendra also reinforces the importance of the ‘Indian Literature’.
Air-conditioned, Bhavan – Kanji Khetsey Sabhagriha, located in the heart of the city at Girgaon Chowpatty, provides Kala Kendra with ideal facilities for its activities. Also available on rent.
The Bhavan's Kala Kendra is able to carry out its work in the cultural field through the generosity of its supporters, many of whom attend our performances, lectures and workshops.
Even a small donation of money will make a difference to the Bhavan's Kala Kendra’s ability to serve its growing public and support the development of the arts and propagating Indian culture. Many regular donations of relatively small amounts of money can be just as effective a way of supporting us as offering a single lump sum.
You don’t have to be wealthy or famous to give. For many cultural ventures around the world, it is the modest giving of passionate supporters that ensures the day to day sustainability of an organisation.
Small gifts will be acknowledged with a receipt and a letter of thanks, and in future, you will be included in invitations to various special events held at the Bhavan for our regular donors.
Bhavan upholds our ancient concepts:
Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam - " The World is one family ".
Aa no Bhadraah kratavo yantu vishwatah - “Let Noble thoughts come to us from every side".
The above connotations vindicate unequivocally the catholicity of mind, the democratic fibre and the secularist character enshrined in our culture from time immemorial.
The Bhavan seeks the active participation and support of all in the movement of carrying the universal message of the great Indian Culture to the four corners of the world and of building up a Commonwealth of Faith, Hope and Basic Human Values, bringing nations and people together to strive for a world free from hatred and strife and full of love, peace and happiness.
We therefore invite you to join us in continuing this pious and holy campaign and thus strengthen Bhavan's hands in its relentless efforts.
Donating to the Bhavan's Kala Kendra is easy. Simply post a cheque drawn in the favour of “Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan” along with a covering letter to:
