Naatya Utsav 2014 was inaugurated at Bhavan's TAG auditorium, Kilpauk on December 13, 2014, by Shri Philip A. Min, Consul General of USA and Justice Dr. M Chockalingam, Judicial Member, National Green Tribunal, Southern Zone, was the Special Guest.
Shri K. Parasaran, former Attorney General of India, MP and Vice Chairman, Bhavan's Chennai Kendra welcomed the gathering. Chairman Shri L. Sabretnam presided over the function. Padmabhusan Ms Alarmel Valli received the Life Time Achievement award consisting of a cash award of
One Lakh, a memento, shawl and citation. Bhavan's Cultural Awards 2014 consisting of 25000/-, memento, shawl and citation were presented to Ms. Saashwati Prabhu (Vocal), Ms.Subashree Ramachandran (Vocal), Shri S. Venkatraman (Tambura), Kum. K. Mahati (Keyboard), Kum. S. Aswini (Mridangam), Kum. S. Anjani (Veena), Shri S. Venkatesh and Shri K. Murugan (light and sound technicians). Shri K. N. Ramaswamy, Kendra Director, proposed the vote of thanks. The inaugural function was followed by a Bharatnatyam recital by Ms. Alarmel Valli. The two week festival show cased 37 individual performances of Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi, Mohinattam, Kathak, Sastriya and Odissi.
