Palkhi, Dindi Celebrations
Palkhi pooja by Chief Guest Mr. & Mrs. Mandar Herlekar
To foster religious and spiritual traditions in children, Bhavan's Sulochana Natu Vidya Mandir, celebrated Palkhi and Dindi on June 28th, 2017. Palkhi is a tradition followed by the Warkaris of Maharashtra and Northern Karnataka. More than 3 lakh Warkaries, irrespective of caste, religion, age walk along with the Palkhi of Sant Tukaram and Sant Dnyaneshwar from Alandi and Dehu to Pandharpur. The Warkaries reach Pandharpur on Ashadhi Ekadashi and worship Lord Vitthal with great devotion.
Following Palkhi, a pooja and aarti were performed by the Chief Guest Mr. & Mrs. Mandar Herlekar. This was followed by the Dindi procession led by a Palkhi carrying the image of Sant Dnyaneshwar. Nearly 150 students of Std. VII participated in the procession. The students were clad in the traditional clothes of the Warkaris. They distributed Tulsi saplings to residents as they walked along with the Palkhi, thereby spreading the message: 'Go Green'.
The Chief Guest Mr. Mandar Herlekar was greatly overwhelmed as the students chanted devotional songs. He congratulated the staff for nurturing young minds on the path of spiritualism as well as for valuing our culture and tradition.
The celebration ended with the prasad distribution.
