A Truly Wonderful Gesture
Miss D.R. Prathyusha
Miss D.R. Prathyusha is a Grade 11 student of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kuwait. Her name has been on roll since the inception of the school way back in 2006. She has been growing with us since then and her progress rate has been commendable. All through her years at school, she has been an outstanding student in every sense. She has excellent academic track records. She has been the proud recipient of the scholar badge and scholarship twice. She has won many an accolade in multifarious competitions like debate, extempore speech, essay writing, versification and so on and so forth. She is also the recipient of the gold medal from Queen Elizabeth II for her stupendous performance in the GLOBAL SAT examination. The list of accolades is endless. She received the CBSE and Bhavans merit certificate for securing A1 grades in all the five subjects in the AISSE examination held in March 2014. Apart from this, she has represented the school at the National CBSE sports meets in Badminton and Chess. She is a trained classical dancer and singer as well. In short we can consider this student of ours, a fully moulded Bhavanite.
This summer when she visited Kashmir with her parents, she was elated to appreciate nature's splendor at its best but disheartened by the paucity of the people in the valley. However, she was highly impressed by their exuberant hospitality and their kind and compassionate nature. On her return to Kuwait she learnt more about the devastation that the flood had caused in the valley recently and the plight of the people, some of whom she might have met at the time of her visit. She was moved by the scenes that were telecast and she wanted to do something for the people to alleviate their pitiful state.
She, with the permission of her parents and the Embassy of India in Kuwait, started a fund raising drive and mustered a sum of Indian Rupees 2.15 Lakhs. She spent several hours after school visiting the houses in the neighborhood and also offices with a letter of appeal, which she herself had drafted. Her contributors included people from all socio economic strata, both Indians and non-Indians. The amount was dispatched to the PMO's relief fund through the Ambassador's office .
Initially, her act of selfless service to humanity drew the attention of the media in Kuwait. Now her efforts have been recognized by the Honb'l Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, by way of a letter of commendation that was delivered to her from the Ambassador's office.
What we cherish is her feelings for the needy , her leadership qualities and her ability to balance time for academic and extra-curricular activities which we expect from all our students. We are proud of this outstanding student and our country should be proud of this promising citizen.
