The Sixth 'Tirupati Book Festival' was organised by the Bhavan's Tirupati Kendra at the sprawling Sri Venkateswara High School Grounds, from February 4 to 12. The
Guest of Honour, Shri Galla Ramachandra Naidu, Chairman, Amararaja Group of Companies and Vice Chairman of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Tirupati Kendra, called it a great opportunity to check out rare books and which were hitherto unavailable.
The Chief Guest, Shri J. Prabhakara Rao, I.P.S., Superintendent of Police, Tirupati Urban District, expressed concern over students evincing disinterest towards general books even while being voracious readers of academic content. He called upon schools to assign reading time during school hours. Shri P. V. Krishna Reddy, Bhavan's Executive Vice Chairman, presided over the inaugural function.
Noted publishing houses like Sahitya Academy, Ramakrishna Vivekananda Publications, Veda Bharati, Rainbow, Navaratna, Scholastic etc. set up over 50 stalls at the expo.
Debate competitions for College students', Quiz Competition for different school students and written quiz for mothers were conducted during the fest.
