The students of Bhavan's Vidya Mandir, Elamakkara were invited to represent their school in the 64th session of Harvard Model United Nations 2017 (HMUN) held at Boston from 26th to 29th January 2017. Nearly 3500 high school students from all around the world participated at the largest iteration of HMUN ever.
As a simulation of the UN, this conference provided the students an opportunity to both replicate the work of the UN and try to find solutions to the problems faced by the international community from their own unique perspective. Throughout the span of the conference, the students developed their negotiation skills and learned the importance of cooperation and the need to reach a consensus. The overall experience was immensely enriching, both in terms of gaining knowledge as well as making friends from all over the world.
The highlights of the trip were the visit to the United Nations Headquarters at New York and the interactive session with Ian Vasquez, the director of the Cato's Institute's Centre for Global Liberty and Prosperity. The tour also included visits to the White House, Capitol Hill, Lincoln Memorial, Korean Memorial and the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC.
