Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan organised a musical event Vasantotsav - an evening of classical vocal recital by Pt. Madhup Mudgal on Tuesday, February 23, 2017 at Munshi Memorial Hall, Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan, New Delhi.
The event began with the lighting of the lamp by Honourable Pt. Madhup Mudgal, a composer, conductor and founder-principal of the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Delhi and a Padma Shri awardee. Present at the occassion were Dr. Ashok Pradhan, Director of Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan, Mrs Vibha Kohli, Vice Principal, Mehta Vidyalaya, Dr. Geetika Dutta, Principal of Bhavan's Leelawati Munshi College of Education and other dignitaries.
Madhup started with a mesmerizing Alaap and went on to sing a few notes of bandish-basant of surtal rachna from dhrupad gharana which is the oldest genre of existing north Indian classical music. Because of Vasantotsav, his music was based on Vasant Ritu or the spring season.
He ended the event with a melodious Holi geet that filled everyone with the joy of the Holi festival.
