The Bhavan Vidyalaya Chandigarh Model United Nations 2012 was organised by the School from August 9 to 11 2012. "Zeal to Heal" was the theme of the Conference and over 241 delegates representing 125 Countries from 40 Schools in North India participated in this conference. This event provided the dynamic delegates an ideal platform to display and hone their skills as debaters, negotiators and decision makers. The event began with an impressive and vibrant opening ceremony, replete with mesmerizing performances and a hard hitting presentation highlighting the strife and devastating ripping our world apart.
The Chief Guest for this occasion was the distinguished and eminent diplomat, Dr. Kanwal Sibal, who has been India's Foreign Secretary and Ambassador of several countries – Turkey, U.S, France, Russia and Egypt. The other distinguished guests included the chairman Shri R. K. Saboo, Vice Chairman Shri Chandra Mohan, Hony. Secretary Shri P. R. Aggarwal and Kendra members Shri V. K. Sibal and Shri Jagesh Khaitan.
The three days long conference witnessed a flurry of activity and events. This was followed by hectic parleys, negotiations, heated debates and lobbying, as the five Committees of the UN were simulated simultaneously – The General Assembly, Economic and Social Council, Convention against Corruption, The Security Council and the Ad hoc Crisis Committee. The agendas discussed included burning issues such as the Palestinians bid for Statehood, Increasing Corruption in the private sector, Discrimination based on gender inequality and sexual orientation, Global financial crisis with special reference to sovereign debt and austerity measures etc.
Presiding over the closing ceremony Shri P. R. Aggarwal, Hony Secretary Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, commended the delegates on their fiery spirit and the zeal to make the world a better place to live in. He also greatly appreciated the commitment and dedication of the Organising Committee towards ensuring the success of the conference.
