The Social Science Club of Bhavan's Sri Venkateswara Vidyalaya, Tirupati, organised a Youth Parliament titled 'Hope' on November 05, 2011 as an activity to inculcate among students virtues like patriotism and citizenship. The programme was inaugurated by Sri Agarala Eswara Reddy, Former Speaker of Legislative Assembly, Andhra Pradesh and Dr. N. Siva Prasad, Member of Parliament graced the occasion. Prof. Sannidhanam Sudarsana Sharma, Vice Chancellor of Sri Venkateswara Vedic University was also present. The Youth Parliament was an attempt to prepare students to participate in the democratic functioning of civic and political institutions. Students of Class X took up the roles of various ministers and opposition members, dressed in formal Indian attire. The Youth Parliament setting resembled the Parliament in New Delhi. The proceedings involved various agendas of the regular Parliament like oath taking, introduction of new ministers, question hour, zero hour, passing of a bill, and no confidence motion. The children delivered their parts effectively with great zeal and confidence.
Dr. N. Siva Prasad, Member of Parliament, in his address appreciated the young parliamentarians for their presentation, diction and confidence. The session provided an insight into the proceedings of the Parliament in a meticulous manner. The guests were felicitated by Dr. N. Satyanarayana Raju and other Executive Committee Members.
Dr. N. Satyanarayana Raju, Hon. Director and Treasurer, said that the activity needs to be initiated in all schools and colleges to strengthen the functioning of democracy.
