Udit Sanghi, class XII student of Bhawan Vidyalaya, Panchkula has been selected as part of the Indian team for International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI), 2020. IOI is the most prestigious programming contest in the world for school students.
India selects its team by first shortlisting top students from Indian National Olympiad in Informatics (INOI), which is held in January every year. This year 32 students were shortlisted based on performance in INOI. After a tough 3-day contest from 21st to 23rd August, the 32 students had to solve three programming problems in a 5-hour period, and Udit's name figured in the winner's list.
Udit had performed well in INOI in the last two years as well and was shortlisted for team selection in 2018 and 2019. But both the years, he came 5th in the contest, thereby missing the chance to be in the Indian team. But his perseverance paid off this year.
Udit has a keen interest in programming and Maths. Even as a 5-year-old, he could calculate cricket run rates and solve very tough mathematical puzzles. He got interested in programming in Class VIII. He has won many awards in programming including two silver medals in Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad (APIO), and a backup winner in Google Code-in.
