The students and staff of Bhavan's Vidya Mandir, Elamakkara emphasised their commitment to help the needy by ensuring the success of the 2nd edition of 'Dhaan Deepthi', a Social Responsibility Initiative mooted by the SEED club of the school. The second edition of 'Dhaan Deepthi' involved donation of blankets to the Paniya tribals of Wayanad.
Sri E. Ramankutty, Director Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Kochi Kendra handed over the consignment of 856 blankets to Sri Harikumar, Co-ordinator for collection and supply of essential medicines, food & clothes for Amritha Kripa Charitable Hospital, Kainatty, Kalpetta.
The campaign 'a blanket to battle the cold' was conceived in response to an appeal made by noted Social Activist Sri Vijay Menon, who drew the attention of the school authorities to the miserable plight of the members of the Paniya tribe in Wayanad district, most of who are afflicted with sickle-cell anaemia and experience severe pain and for whom winters are a nightmare without blankets to keep them warm. This noble initiative has also served to impress upon the student community that it is important to look around and respond proactively to the needs of the helpless around them.
