Spicmacay Cultural Function
Gitanjali and Vidha Lal performing
A cultural event organised by SPICMACAY in collaboration with the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Haryana was held at Bhavan Vidyalaya, Panchkula on May 13. Renowned Kathak artistes Shrimati Gitanjali Lal and her daughter-in-law Shrimati Vidha Lal mesmerised the audience with their heart-pleasing dance performance.
They spoke about the meaning of the word "Kathak", its techniques of rhythmic patterns through footworks. The "ghungroos" worn by the artists contains about 200 "ghungroos" and weigh about 2 kg. Kathak is divided into three eras - Temple Era, Mughal Era, Modern Era. A performance of an imaginary ball was followed by the legends of Shri Krishna's childhood. The programme ended with a "jugalbandi".
Bhavan Vidyalaya has been in association with SPICMACAY since 2010 and has taken part in cultural and heritage oriented events and National and International Conventions including The National Convention at Mangalore in 2011, the heritage educational train tour to Rajasthan and Gujarat, The International Convention at IIM- Kolkata in 2013 and the National School Intensive at Raipur.
